New business offers shopping services to seniors

RUSHMORE ― A Nobles County native has started a new business venture that seeks to serve senior citizens by running errands for them so they can stay safe at home.

Marriah Aggen started Essential Senior Services after more than a decade working at long-term care facilities, including the last two years at Ecumen Meadows in Worthington.

“I just love serving the residents,” Aggen said. “The longer I’m in the field, the more drawn I am to the seniors.”

Aggen operates her new business out of her home in Rushmore and offers services within a 50-mile radius. Offerings include trips to the grocery store, post office, pharmacy, laundry, pet supplies and even Costco or Sam’s Club.

Owning a business has been a dream of Aggen’s for a long time, and this niche allows her to serve people in a meaningful way.

“This is something where all of my passions can come together,” Aggen said.

She hopes to lower the risk for seniors of going out and running errands while lightening the load for family members who care for them. Aggen’s professional background means that she’s trained to limit the spread of germs, so she can help prevent COVID exposure. Contactless service is also available.

Even after the COVID-19 pandemic subsides, Aggen said she believes her business will allow area seniors to live at home longer, giving them a greater sense of independence.

Aggen understands that people can be particular about the products they buy, so she will honor personal preferences with exemplary attention to detail. She promises to serve each client as if she were shopping for her own family member.

“I’m really honored by the possibility of serving people,” Aggen said.
